PURPOSE
Conservation informs and involves the membership in all aspects of the conservation and preservation of natural resources and plans and organizes activities relating to conservation. Pursuing committee members interests, this includes shared viewing and discussion of films, books, webinars, and tours of local facilities or sites dedicated to conservation. With Civic and often including Horticulture, the Conservation Committee establishes ongoing community-focused projects. The Chair or alternate is encouraged to attend GCA NAL conference and Federated Garden Clubs of CT Conservation School and report back to the club membership about them.

RID THE PLANET OF PLASTICS
NexTrex is a community recycling program sponsored by Trex, the decking and outdoor furniture company. Consumers are being asked to recycle plastic bags and other thin plastic film, which Trex will transform into something useful.
The GCNH has entered into a community challenge with Trex to collect 500 pounds of plastic film over a six-month period – April to September 2023. Members collect and weigh their plastic film materials, then drop them off at a number of recycle drop-off places (such as Stop& Shop, Big Y, and Kohl’s). Please don’t forget to report package weights to Pat Sabosik, so she can report monthly totals to Trex.
